Old Stoneware Bottles

Dai in Kelowna, B.C asks about some antique bottles

These probably held liquid boot blacking or ink. Some of them have rather =
nice
salt glaze which is very attractive and acts as a good comparison for people=
who
do salt and soda glazing.

Best regards,

Ivor.

I have a stoneware ink bottle, blackish glaze, picked up in an Evansville, IN
area antique shop. What I found intriguing is that there appeared to be two
mends to the fabric, made before glazing, done in a cross-shaped manner. It's
as if the clay mend was added in a vertical strip over a horizontal strip, both
sort of pinched up from the thrown surface and left that way. Anyone seen
anything like that before?

Enjoying clayart.
