low fire crawl glaze

updated thu 30 dec 99

Hi!
from Lana Wilson's book I learnt to create such a glaze at ^6 by adding up
to 50% Magnesium carbonate to a favorite glaze.
As trying to do it at low fire I added once 30% to a favorite base glaze.
That firing was to 1040C
In the plate it was partly nice crawl (probably where it was thick) and
partly just a dry glaze. The next time I added 50% and the results were not
too good. I suggest to try it in any GOOD base for low fire, to test it
with an add of: 10, 20 and 30% Magnesium carb. If you want color, use
artificial colorant.
good luck
And happy new year to all of us!
Ababi (In one of the places
that still waiting to the rain!)

Edouard,
Steven Goldate of ceramic guide suggested I contact you for a recipe for a
low
fire crawl glaze.
Would you have one that you can share?
Thanks, Melody
