stinky glaze

Reading about the stuff you put into wheat paste to keep it from getting
icky reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask. When I add CMC to
some of my commercial glaze formulations, sometimes, but not always, it gets
unbelievably stinky after a few days. Is there something I could add to the
water to prevent this without affecting the glaze performance? what about
clorox?

Hi!
I keep the jar with the prepared C.M.C. jell in the refrigerator and the
same about slurries with c.m.c. that made for long time.

(If you live in the north, just keep it in the garden)

Yes, my mother always had a bottle of it around.
I don't think it is made with the old formula any more as it had phenol in
it and in this super cautious age it is considered too dangerous for the
common public to handle. Strong and effective though.

If memory serves me right, and it doesn't always these days, we used to put
Lysol in stinky glazes. Not the now-popular spray, but the liquid. It has a
smell of its own, and does not destink as much as replace one smell with
another. Does anyone remember it? Is anyone using it?

I just add 1/4 cup of bleach to a stinky 5 gallon glaze bucket.
