Susan, The recipe I use is Carleton Balls Transparent l6. It is a forgiving
glaze in that it can be fired over several cones without running. However,
it does have a tendency to craze over some clay bodies. I have therefore
added 10 % of flint to the recipe . If Ron Roy or some other glaze guru can
improve this recipe I would be very grateful, because I really like this
glaze very much.
cone 5-7
Felspar 44
Flint 24 (34)
Ball Clay 1
Colemanite 20
Whiting 2
Zinc oxide 3
Barium Carb 6

Add 1% of degussa red, test it and if you want a stronger red simply
increase the percentage of the stain addition until you get the color you
want. I fire this glaze in the cone 5-7 range, in an electric kiln, over
white stoneware clay. It is a glossy glaze with a very good color response.
