Hi Liz-

Denver is a great city.....it is large enough to provide the bennies of the
Big
City, small enough to be a fun place. Denver's had quite a renaissance
since the mid-80's and lots of people live downtown in old, renovated, very
charming buildings. There's also lots of new buildings--and Denver has the
sense to make sure that the downtown area is not full of strip malls--the
building codes require that new buildings be "mixed use"--which means
combinations of housing, shopping and offices. There may be slums still,
but not in the downtown core....that I know of--I was just there at the end
of October.....it is a fun fun alive city.

There is a free shuttle that stops at every street corner, runs from one
end of downtown to the other--along 15th street in both directions. THere
are many many many many fun places to eat, drink (coffee and
alcohol),shop....AND leave us NOT forget the FABULOUS Denver Art
Museum--EIGHT floors of art--all varieties--you need to go there several
times--too much to see in one trip.

There are a couple GREAT bookstores--The Tattered Cover being one--lower
downtown I think its on 16th street near Union Station. And a bunch of art
galleries, movie theaters.......

It is very safe during the day, and probably night time as long as you
don't stray away to the outskirts.--I doubt if Denver is any more or less
safe than a city of equal size......

There are lots of people around downtown especially during bizniss
hours--but there's also a fair amount of people around in the evening,
because there is so much to do.......

My oldest brother is an architect in downtown DEnver--every time I go
there, I want to move--ALbuquerque, where *I* live has everything that
makes cities a pain in the ass, and none of the good things.......

have fun there-

I too ,live in Albuquerque, well, near it , in East Mountain and I think it
is pretty good, granted the downtown area in not so nice, but there is a lot
in the area and the weather is wonderful. I have heard that the downtown area
in going to ve developed and maybe it will be as nice as the Denver downtown
area.. we can hope...
