------------------
The commercial adhesives for laminating fiber to brick are pretty cheap
when you consider that they WILL work well in doing the job and will remain
doing the job without problems a long time. A 5 gallon bucket of many
applicable types is only about forty bucks....not really that expesnsive.
I have not seen many homemede mixtures that have stood up to the test of
time as well as the commercial stuff. You are gambling if you use one that
you don not KNOW well. If you are throwing up a kiln that only needs to be
there a few years........ maybe OK. But if you want it to be there for the
long haul.... invest a little money. The kiln is only as good as the
weakest link in the construction.

............. he says one can mix sodium silicate with crushed up ceramic
fiber and make a good bonding stuff for just the case you mention.

Remember the age of the first printing of this book before you take all it
says for =22gospel=22. This book was written in the =22stone age=22 of =
studio
potters utilizing ceramic fiber.

He says to powder the ceramic fiber in a mortor and pestal...........

PLEASE.... be careful in ceramic handling fiber. Get a MSDS and read it
before handling fiber.
