framing multi-tile panels

Whoever suggested selling multi-tile panels as works of art to hang on the =
wall,
instead of installed on it, has a good idea. But, does anyone have any
suggestions as to mounting and framing to keep it from looking too heavy and
clunky? Joe, Mr. Moderator, do you recall how the tile panel in Douglas
McMeekin's dining room in Ecuador was done? I remember admiring it, and =
didn't
have the impression of too much bulk or weight. Thanks.

Gail
The panels I referred to by Linda John are tiles glued to plywood and
grouted in the normal way. They are then framed in a regular wooden frame no
deeper than 1 inch and maybe just 3/4 inch wide. It is Linda's choice to
have as plain as possible, either plain wood, black or washed in a colour
appropriate to the work.

This in no way looks too chunky or heavy. "Just right" for work that is from
12 x 12 ins. to maximum of 36 x 36 inches (so far). A supporting bar is
sometime put across the back to make sure of safety on larger pieces and she
always uses either chain or wire to hang them.

Hope this helps?

Gail,

Frank Giorgini has some interesting ideas about mounting tile in his book
Handmade Tile. I've seen his work mounted (in a panel) and it's very clean
(sleek) definately not bulky.
