electric kiln question (soaking)

Hi Steve!

"Soak" refers to leaving the kiln on at the appropriate cone for a little
longer than most cones in a setter will allow. This simular to firing
manually, to a higher cone (half bend to 3:00), eg, when you high-fire to
cone 10, one shuts the kiln off when cone 11 begins to melt.

Soaking assures that one will not only reach the programmed temperature, but
your wares will have that extra few minutes to bask in (and mature well) at
the cone of your choice. Some glaze recipes work better when the glaze is
"soaked" into the molten clay.

Like all other ceramic processes, it's a good idea to experiment. You have an
additional tool to work with, so try it out!

Best wishes!
