paragon's lid support

Does anyone have experience with the kiln lid support
that paragon is selling? I am thinking of using it to
retrofit an older electric kiln with an inadequate
support that is allowing the weight of the lid to destroy
the top ring. Please answer me directly as well as on the
list as I often don't get to my clayart mail digest.
Thanks
Jude

Hi Jude!

Paragon's lid support works beautifully. Easy to install, it will lower the
effort required to lift the lid e.i. from 40 to 7 lbs. It's extended rear
mounting bracket provides the necessary support. However, the purpose of
this piece of equipment mainly to ease the opening and closing of the lid
and not to provide support to the top ring.

If you just want support for the top ring you can:
1. disconnect the lid and removeit
2. readjust the top ring to its original position
3. install "braces" between the top and bottom rings. Normally 2 are enough,
one on each side, approximatelly 4-5 inches from the hinge. I use something
used in working with frames from the hardware store which comes with holes
pre-drilled. It is a rectangular piece of metal and it comes in different
sizes. I usually put 5 screws (forming an X) on the top and five on the
bottom ring to secure it. This way when you open the lid the weight is held
by both rings. A cheap, easy fix-it.
