spots from stainless burners

A friend asked me to post this question to the list. He has recently
rebuilt his kiln (cone 10R) and used stainless steel burner tubes, with
regular tips. He is now getting some small spots on his pots that he
didn't have before. They are small, brown, and sometimes seem to have a
bit of hard material in them. He says they look like iron spots. Could
his burner tubes be sluffing off something? Thanks.

If he is using propane it is possible that rust may be breaking off inside
the tank. It is not uncommon for water ( condensation) to occur in the
tanks. I doubt that the stainless burner would be the culprit--I would
more likely suspect carbon steel burners. He might try coating the burners
with ITC 213 which will stop any possible residue from breaking off and
eliminate that possibility. Nils
