Michelle,

If you experiment in your claywork, you can use those nasty ants to your
advantage. Take a flat piece of clay in both hands, and flatten the critters
with it. The ants create a unique impression--the more ants you "capture" the
better the "ant texture." The critter bodies will burn out in the bisque
firing. I made several "ant masks" using this technique!

In the hot, dry Mojave Desert, where the ant population could easily
outnumber the human population. We have big ants, little ants, red ants,
black ants, ants that sting, and ants that fly.
