I have an alkaline glaze that tends to craze when it is thick but when it is
thin it's alright. The thicker it is the more dark green it is, which I
like. My background in glaze developement is only moderate so I am asking
all you glaze experts for a little advice please. How can I alter the glaze
for a better fit on the clay body? Here's the recipe: Granite powder:24%,
Ashes:10%, Custerspar:28%, G-200 spar:10%, calcined oyster shells:10%,
Kaolin:10%, Ball clay:3%, Ger. borate:2%, Silica:2%, Bentonite:2%, Red
iron:1%. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jim

It is not may not the exact answer, but alkaline glazes intend to have
crackles(So if you cannot beat them ,join them=21) Those glazes you can use =
when
you 'print' leaves into the clay you get it the depth color according to the
thickness or you can spread (and clean letter)alcohol based ink or manganese=
to
bring out the crackles.
hope helped
