trouble with ups

The Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival experienced considerable
difficulty trying to return the artwork after the recent closing from their
shows.
Even after twenty-five years of using UPS and never having a claim made, UPS
refused to ship the parcels because;
-The boxes were not new.
All the boxes had to be repackaged
-Each package was dismantled by UPS which resulted in the loss of two
artworks due to careless handling by UPS.
-The 'high value of each package made it not profitable' for them in the
event of damage.
-UPS indicated they were unwilling to accept any art shipments.
After many phone calls, inspection, additional boxing, replacing the ones
refused, and repackaging the Westmoreland folks were able to ship most of
the work out, only after the threat of a law suit!!!
-UPS still refused to ship the 'high value' art work. That was shipped via
Fed EX at higher shipping costs.
Bottom line: In future shipments to the Festival, the return shipping must
include monies for 'new' boxing and insulating fillers plus an insurance
value that is approved by UPS in writing.
The Festival folks are urging us to seek other carriers to ship the work.

Interesting. I used to work for RadioShack. Almost all their repair
shipments, including computers, are shipped in very used boxes, via UPS.
Kinda makes me wonder if some local supervisor isn't trying to make a name
for himself/herself in the company by "saving money."
