Hi, I'm looking for a reliable cone 6 clear glaze to be used in a classroom
setting. Will be firing in an electric kiln. Any input will be
appreciated.
Thanks, Katie

> Here is one of two clear glazes I use at cone 6 in an electric kiln
only for oxidation. Both uses basic readily available materials.

#1
Clear Only - Best when used as just a clear glaze. Will ture slightly
grey in gas reduction firing.

Silica 31%
Nepheline Syenite 30%
Gerstley Borate 21%
Kaolin (EPK) 10%
Wollastonite 8%
----
100%

#2 Clear

This can also be used to development transparent blue to celedon to
green glaze. This glaze is higher gloss that Clear #1. Also uses very
basic materials. Oxidation only. I originally obtained the base formula
from internet. Color experiments are mine.
Base clear glaze

Gerstley Borate 50%
Kaolin (EPK) 17.5%
Silica 32.5%

Shades of blue - .5% to 2% Cobalt Carbonite (less is lighter more is
darker).
5% Manganese Carbonate

Celadon blue-grey - .5% Cobalt Carbonate
4% Chrome Oxide
5% Tin Oxide
(I forgot the Cobalt once and still looked good just
less blue)

Celedon green-grey - .5 to 1% Copper Carbonate
4% Chrome Oxide
5% Tin Oxide

Good Luck
