nylon - opinion and general musings.

A worry about NYLON is in the greater scheme of things rather
insignificant, and in my opinion over-reactive, considering the scale of
toxic / noxious / dangerous / and potentially harmful chemicals and
processes involved in producing ceramics.

A nice "organic" woodfiring, where 5+ cords of wood are consumed most
likely would produce more dangerous chemicals than a Nylon reinforced clay
body.
____________

We do not live in a "natural" world anymore. ACCEPT IT !!

Kilns are fired by gas.....a by product of coal, oil or whatever. Electric
kilns are fired by the same .....by proxy at a generating plant miles away.
Farmer John's trees we use to fire our wood kilns have residues of
pesticides and other toxics, etc. Petroleum fuels are used cutting and
hauling the wood.
Reduction firings, by their very nature and chemistry, spew lots of
unburned and carcinogenic combustion by-products into the environment.

I feel, unless we're using terracotta, or other "natural" dug clays with no
glaze we have no right to question the use of "toxics" by others. ( In what
would be prudent and "normal" use.)
How "natural" is using cobalt ? Barium ? Copper ? Manganese ? Unless we're
in an ore producing region, we import these items from thousands of miles
away to create a "natural" product.
_______

The automobiles we use to haul materials and finished products use
petroleum ( unnatural ) fuels. The cars are made of unnatural materials.
The light switch and wires to light our studios at night, are made of
unnatural materials.

Our kilns are made of totally unnatural materials.

We need to lighten up and take a realistic view of the world, the

Act and work responsibly, not careless and heedless, nor paranoid and anal.

who's would it be ?? )

Here, here.
And don't forget those 100# bags of sand and fireclay. We're just one lift
from a career change. And, oh yea, the liver problems brought on by the
drinking which is a reaction to self employment stresses. And the broken
hearts from loosing the ones we love. Ah, oh, where was I??

Once again that Ditmar has hit the piece of rendered iron ore on the flat
spot. And....it is like being against logging...............when was the last
time you used plastic toilet paper? It is indeed better living through
chemistry, I try for moderation. And without de chemistry we be packin' mud
into de baskets mon and settin' them by the fire and you can forget about
copper reds.........

Holy geeze, this production potter would sooner cross the Mojave nekid, than
to go back to a kick wheel. Let's face it guys, the very process of birth
brings about the first human polution...............poop
