Dear Marcia,
At the risk of offending Mr. Lou and Mr. Jacobson, who have both been
extremely helpful to me on the subject of kiln building (and a very big
thanks to both of them for their exceptional generosity), I say a hearty,
"Amen!" to your comment on arches. There's something about the Roman arch
that's appealing. I absolutlely do not question the utility and logic in
the flattop kiln. I just find a properly constructed arch something that
really appeals to my emotions!
Besides, there's not that much welding for the skewback supports....
