nickel oxide - brownish colour instead of black

Some few weeks back I placed the following enquiry on Clayart:-

I have recently had to buy some more Nickel oxide. Up to now it has
always been black in colour. The latest supply is an earth colour,
something like milk chocolate.
Hamer talks of two differently coloured forms of NiO2, black and
greenish grey. He says both forms are 99% pure nickel oxide and that the
trace elements making up the 1% influence the colour of the nickel oxide
powder but do not make any difference to the use of the material as a
glaze colourant.
I would appreciate hearing of other potters experience.

If it of interest to anyone on Clayart I can now add that I have tested
the new material in the glaze I use and I cannot see any difference
whatsoever.
Also Bath Potters have been good enough to go back to their supplier, W
G Ball, who has said:-
The black/very dark green coloured powder is Nickel oxide. The brownish
version includes about 3 percent Nickel carbonate. However, they use
them interchangeably.
