Hi all,

I find myself working on a cobalt blue glaze for raku and have gotten a
beautiful deep blue using cobalt carb with my base raku glaze (70 gerstley
borate/30 neph.sye.) but am trying to get more depth and a bit of flash into
it.
Any suggestions?
thanks so much,

Try to add about 10% zircopax for "cooling" the cobalt and a little copper
Oxide 1-2% for nice spots in the reduction

Dear Karen

My blue Raku glaze consists of:
85 parts by weight High Alkaline Fritt
15 ................China Clay (Kaolin)
1.25 ..............Cobalt Carbonate
1 .................Copper Carbonate

This glaze starts out a fairly virulent BLUE, but with time (like a
wine) it gets better, developing more and more coppery lights, mauves,
and purples until (again like a wine) after about 18 months - 2 years in
the bucket it gets crabby and stops performing completely. I usually
make it about a month before I want to use it.
I have no idea why it behaves like this, I just use it and enjoy it!
