refiring ^5 ox

Has anyone had success with refiring cone 5 pieces in electric
oxidation?

I had a complete load overfire and the glazes bubbled (Small bubbles)
I've heard that I can refire, but I've never attempted it before.

Is there anything I should do to the pieces before I refire (i.e.
rough-up and reglaze)

Thanks much,

John,
You have a couple of options in a case such as this, but I would use both
options in one more firing.
1. Bust your bubbles and rub the thick original glaze into the bubbles now
pits, which will fill them in. Don't double dip or double spray whatever your
glazing technique maybe.Just fill the craters!
2. Fire the bubbled mother load to a soft ^6.

This should take care of your bubbles! Good luck!

What happened to the mild northeast weather that we had last year in
Delaware!
I should be greatful, it is still wonderful incomparison to all those years
in Louisiana.

Hi John. I fire ^5 electric and refire my pieces all the time. 2 of my
glazes crawl sometimes even though I wash the pieces before firing (after
they've dried overnight).

If the bubbles you refer to have cratered, I would take a little brush and
fill each crater with glaze before refiring. I also would recommend soaking
your kiln at ^5 for about 30 min. to let the glaze get good and mature.

A caveat, however--when I have refired my bubbled pieces (uncratered) the
glaze usually stays the same afterwards. Very frustrating, but you will
likely have better luck. I think it's just my clear glaze that acts up from
time to time.

Hope this works for you. Laura in Oregon

JOHN; I refire sometimes to cone 6 oxidation without problems, if the glaze
had not matured in the first firing, I warm the pot (in my kitchenstove),
then spray a low firing clear glaze over it ( since I do raku, I have that
type of glaze handy), usually that solves my problem. If it should not look
good enough for what I want, I might reglaze it a third time, again witha
raku glaze, but this time a glaze with colour in it.But then I would not
fire to cone 6 any more, I had several overfired pots with big bloated
bubbles in the clay from a third cone 6 firing! The third firing would be
more likely cone 3 or 4 and that is o.k. I think, to be on the safe side,
when doing multiple firings, go lower for refiring. Heidrun

Dear John,

I had a bowl that had bubbled pinholes. I went for it and dremeled a huge
area out
Could not believe after all the abuse I put it through, coating it with
elmers ,then glaze-The kiln gods had blessed me you never know
