Dear Readers,

This may have been a thread a while ago but I am looking for a good
reliable kaki recipe I can mix and try out at cone 9 reduction firing or
whatever it would take to achive good results with this type of glaze. Any
helps would be appreciated.

Dear Llewellyn,

Here's a ^9 reduction Kaki. On its own its a matt brown but can be used
very thickly over other shinier glazes. In fact it's amazing just how
thickly you can use it on the double dip. Don't worry if it cracks
either - these just smooth out. The most important ingredient is the
calcined china clay - this cuts down the plastic shrinkage at the drying
stage. You can obviously make your own calcined china clay by putting
some in a bowl and firing to approx. 1,000 deg C.

Potash feldspar 36
Whiting 6
Dolomite 3
China clay 10
calcined china clay 10
Quartz 35

Titanium dioxide 1
Red iron oxide between 7 and 9%

Cheers,

Mike.
