commercial glaze questions

Having never used commercial glazes before, I wanted to see what I might
have been missing. I've just received sample pints of the Opulence C/6
commercial glazes described in recent ads as offering a "reduction look' in
electric firing. I really liked the way they applied--no drips, runs, etc.
My questions are these:
What differentiates a commercial glaze from one that we'd mix up ourselves?
How do the manufacturers of commercial glazes make their glazes such that
they apply well enough and give fired results satisfactory enough that the
aren't inundated with dissatisfied customers demanding refunds. Are there
special processes, chemicals, additives, that they put in their glazes to
ensure performance? I would love to see a recipe for a commercial glaze to
compare with one that a potter would make up him or her self. Perhaps one
of the glaze gurus who might have knowledge of how commercial glazes are
made could divulge a commercial recipe disguised just enough to ensure the
manufacturer's anonimity?
TIA
