Hello,
Would anyone have a recipe for a black (or almost black) slip that I
can use in cone 10 reduction. I am trying to find a slip that I can use
for sgrafitto and that fires with a little gloss rather than with the
usual dull matte. I am hoping to avoid a clear glaze fire over the
slip. If anyone knows of such a slip, even for cone 6, i would
appreciate it very much.

For Cone 10 Reduction .....Slip Glaze

Ball Clay 75%
Kaolin l0%
Flint l0%
Feldspar 5% This is a white slip glaze

For Black add l0% Mason Stain - Black # 6609 (You could experiment with
different stain if this isn't black enough for you)

For Red brick color add 5% Iron Ox red. (Doesn't always turn brick - if not
red a sort of chocolate brown)

You might try this Sheldon...we used to call it THE Black Slip, (sometimes
blue on porcelain). I know it works in reduction. Albany slip 190/ Neph
sy 10/ cobalt oxide 10/ I have not used it with an Albany substitute.
Hope it works for you. Lori in New Port Richey Fl.

Shelly,

Try BERNARD SLIP alone.
It does very nicely at 6^.
Just a nice "glossy" finish.

This strikes me as a slip rather than a slip glaze.
