I have recently made an addition to my web site by including a page
under Pottery Techniques / Opacifier Test Series

This originated from a base glaze recipe given in a paper presented by
Mike Kusnik at a European conference in 1990, but which was modified to
use talc as the source of magnesium carbonate. The test work shown here
was carried out by Mike Bailey and me and was first published in Ceramic
Review in issue No. 158 in March/April 1996

The pictures shown are the results of a triaxial blend of the base
glaze, and opacifiers, tin oxide and titanium dioxide with different
colouring oxides. Two different clay bodies were used, a buff stoneware
from Spencroft and a white stoneware, 1145, from Potclays. A total of
210 different recipes are shown on each of these clay bodies.
