horsehair technique? ( web site)

Hi Patti
I'm doing a series of horse hair pots. If you have time visit my web site
and see some examples of the pots. I've been experimenting with horse hair
for about a year or so. My technique varies because I work with the carbon
as well as the horse hair markings. I've tried different clays, burnished
(or not), terra sig., textured, and even grogged raku clay. As with
anything they all give a different look. If you want to work with the
carbon from the hair instead of just the black curly markings, when you
place the strands on the pot move the pot around (with gloves ) so
that the carbon travels, painting the surface with browns and blacks.(this
is different than a smudge mark) I also use oxides and stains to give a wood
like look to the pot. I'm playing around with a few other techniques which
seem fun but need to experiment more with them. I had a horse hair and
saggar fire show a few months ago and it was great fun to explain the
process and see the customers' reaction when they heard it was horse hair.
I seal/polish the pots with bees wax (it darkens the surface a bit) or
tre-wax, found at the hardware store... The best part of the journey is to
experiment and find the technique that you enjoy... If you have any
questions just let me know!
Have Fun!!!!

I have had a request to do a horsehair piece..... I have a "very"
general idea of what this is. wrapping horsehair around the pot, and
firing it. Okay where to go from there. I have looked in the archives and
can not find enough info. Can anyone explain this to me. I understand it may
be a raku firing, or if wrapped in heavy foil, I may fire in my elec. kiln.
Any information would be appreciated, and you can e-mail me off line if
clayart has discussed this before and it would be repetitious,, thanks,
