SMOKE AND FIRE WORKSHOP at Architektura in Yelm, WA. (45 minutes south
of Tacoma) 360-894-7527 June 26 =26 27

Come prepared for anything=21 2 full days of hands-on intense firing.
Joe and Barbra will discuss and demonstrate the how to=92s of decorating
surfaces with smoke and fire.

Firings will include NAKED RAKU, HORSEHAIR AND PIT. Pit firings will
include both in-ground, in-cans =26 BBQ's. Be prepare to get dirty, smoky
and learn alot. Participants should bring bisqued terra sigallata pots
or bisqued pots will be available for sale.

Joe Brecha is the owner of Clay Art Center in Tacoma, WA. His ceramic
work deals mainly with alternative firing techniques such as raku,
saggar, pit and low fire salt. Constant experimentation with these
methods has enabled Joe to build a wealth of information about these
techniques. Joe has developed his own unique decorating and firing
techniques which are evident in the rich surfaces he obtains.

Barbra Kates is a full time clay artist and has been involved with clay
for over 27 years. She was head of the ceramic department at Colorado
Mountain College in Vail, Colorado where she was involved with the
influential Summervail Workshops. Barbra has worked alongside many
renowned artists, observing and learning their techniques including
Robert Piepenburg and Bennett Bean. Her work reflects many years of
experimenting with alternative firing techniques. As a team, Joe and
Barbra offer a dynamic, fast paced workshop loaded with information,
techniques and probably some surprises.

Tuition: =24120 includes glazes, materials and firings. .
