reglazing fired pots, another idea.

Another way to reglaze pots even better than reheating them , is to coat
them with white glue like Elmer's and reglaze over that when it is dry. The
glaze really sticks, and so far I haven't seen any problems with various
glazes in oxidation at cone 6 or lower. No real smell that I've noticed
from glue burning off either.(I think that was from a CM tip.)

I haven't read the string on this but I just reglazed some cone 11 work that
had a result that was too thin. I just decanted the water from the glaze and
then mixed enough back in to make it heavy enough that the whisk barely fell
over in it. I was then able to apply two different glazes on the pieces and
the process was sped along by placing them in the sun while the first glaze
dried.

Obviously this wouldn't work if you sprayed and would be more difficult if
you were glazing a large vertical piece.

Hi Maridel
I also used Elmer's Glue to refire a pot. I was to impatient and started
glazing before it was completely dry. The brush and glaze just had a great
time slip sliding around. Being somewhat childlike I started finger
painting with the elmer's and the glaze. I fired the pot to ^6 and sure
enough it looked like it was finger painted! It gave it sort of a textured
look. I guess the glue held the glaze, I really have no idea what happened
but is was a pretty nice surface. I want to try using it again making a
textured surface (peaks and ridges) with the glue and glaze and see if the
glue holds the glaze. I may try it in my children's classes this summer...
(with rubber gloves on!) (low fire)
I have used it the proper way of letting it dry and reglazing and it works
great!!!
Best Wishes

Audrey
