Yes, there is a very simple solution. Wax the bottom of the piece and leave
it unglazed, and celebrate the appearance and texture of the claybody.

In the beginning I felt the same way. My opinion would be first what type of
ceramic are you using, I am assuming that it is low fire because your using
stilts. I would suggest that you could thinly glaze the bottom that is being
stilted, the less amt. of glaze the small the stilt mark. If its a terra cotta
type clay you can wax the bottoms and dry foot or use a terra sigilata covering
if your worried about the ware absorbing water. I have finally gotten use to th
stilt marks when I went to town and observed all the hand finished wares from
other countries and saw the stilt marks there. It made me realize that its a
pretty normal part of pottery. Maybe there are other ways out there, I am also
curious. eportor

I do the same types of work and found that the only way is to use a dipping glaz
and wipe the bottoms a bit to have a thinner application. The only other thing
is to dry foot if you can seal your bottoms on your non food items. I have seen
other fine works in the stores and notice there are stilt marks on those items a
well, so I quit worrying about it. Its a part of the hand creation process.
