The easiest way I've found to figure out how much plaster and water to use =
is by
using a really nifty little device that's available from USG----That's =
United
States Gypsum Company, Industrial Gypsum Division, 125 So. Franklin St.,
Chicago, IL 60606-4678. PH. (800) 487-4431 I don't have a FAX or E-mail
address.

Anyhow, the device is called a Gypsum Cement =26 Plaster Valume and Mix =
Guide. It
is sort of like a slide rule, but don't worry=3B all the direction are very
clearly explained. There is a table that shows the recommended =
consistancies
for plaster for different uses, guides for figuring out the volumes of =
various
kinds of shapes and finally a couple of guides that tell you how to =
translate
the consistancy desired and the volume needed into exactly how much plaster =
and
how much water you need. So far as I know there is no charge for this =
little
gem. Just give them a call or drop them a line and they'll send you one =
along
with a bunch of information about the properties of all kinds of plaster. =
The
guy I talked to a couple of years ago when I got mine was very helpful, but,
sorry, I don't remember his name.

Also, I just remembered, a while back someone was asking about decal =
problems.
If you lost most of the color on firing, it's possible that they are glass
decals which fire at about 022. Even the ceramic ones lose color if they =
are
slightly overfired and they usually are supposed to fire at 018 or 017. =
Cooler
and they're sort of rough with an image of the carrier like a halo around =
them.
Hotter and they lose color and brilliance.

Gerry in Wisconsin where I wish winter would go away for awhile. I have
daffodils in bloom, but it feels like it's going to snow tonight.

This nifty little piece of equipment is included with the new edition of Donald
Frith's book on Plaster Casting.
