Hello All,

I'm a ceramics student in Nottingham, UK, I graduate in June and am
going to live in Ireland next year. I'll be looking for ceramics, crafts
or design orientated work. I'm interested in any kind of art-related
work, so if you have any contacts or know of anywhere or anyone I can
approach for work I'd much appreciate it.

Thankyou,
Regards
Dipali Shah.

I recently enjoyed a trip to Ireland. I found two shops, both on the west
coast. The first was is in Doolin, Doolin Pottery, the town is also known
for its great traditional Irish music. The other shop which had many
craftsmen employed and also offered many classes was on the Dingle
Peninsula. If you were to travel from the town of Dingle (great hostels if
you would like to visit first) on the road loop that takes you past Slea
Head you will come upon a very large studio and shop. They make and sell
everything from place settings, tiled tables, to clocks and giant lamps
with hand painted shades! I unfortunatly have let the name slip my mind,
but anyone in that area will be able to point you in the right direction-
we found the people to be very friendly and helpful!!

Dipali,

This isn't really a response to your question but a request.

I am Terrance Sullivan, Director and Founder of the Nottingham Center for the
Arts in San Marcos, CA ( that's near San Diego south of Los Angeles).

I have heard that there is an art or craft center in , or very near,
Nottingham ,
England. I've tried to get information one way or the other several times to
no avail.
So, I'm asking you for assistance and information.

You're a potter, presumably, and in Nottingham . Can you help with this ??

Is there a art/craft organisation in your area ??

Yours ,

Terrance M. Sullivan

Terry - You've probably been given this information now but here goes
anyway.
There are several potters' associations in the UK, the one taking in the
Nottingham area will be Midlands Potters Association but the country is
so small that areas overlap. Several members of the Northern Potters
Association live in the area. There is a national association called the
Craftsman Potters Association. This is rather elite with full membership
by invitation and has potters of high repute [ not me ].
The CPA organise a potters' market in the area every year showing about
60 potters [ not all members but work is juried ]. This is at Rufford
Park just outside Nottingham. Rufford has a craft centre and exhibition
space and has just opened a ceramics centre as well.
For information about the various potters' associations in the UK check
out the potfest web site [ pinboard section ]. We haven't put a link to
Rufford yet but a search should find it if you don't know it yet.

Would appreciate your comments on the site plus any imput regarding what
could be usefully included to give better information for potters
outside the UK.
