After a long wait, I have just got and read my copy of the NEW EDITION
of this very readable and informative book. 150 pages of excellence.
The London version published by A & C Black of 35 Bedford Row. London
WC1R 4JH has an ISBN 0-7136-5141-5

But you mudlarks over the other side of the pond can also get it:-
Published by The American Ceramic Society, 735 Ceramic Place, PO Box
6136, Westerville, Ohio 43086-6136 ISBN 1-57498-076-9.

The quote from Lord Kelvin at the start of Chapter 7, Glaze
calculations, should be taken to heart by all those out there who just
throw out appeals for Glaze Recipes, but don't like getting down to the
chemistry and maths.

"When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in
numbers, you know something about it, but when you cannot measure it,
hen you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and
unsatisfactory kind; it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have
scarcely, in your thoughts, advanced to the stage of Science whatever
the matter may be." Lord Kelvin

I am using that quotation in a Planning Inquiry at Harrogate on Tuesday
as an introduction to my presentation of an Excel Spread Sheet
explaining the inputs and outputs from Intensive Turkey Farming. If any
want a copy for opposing the pollution from factory farming in their own
back yard, just ask. It's free. I am the Planning Consultant to
Compassion in World Farming.

When I've put paid to factory farming, I can really get down to more
potting.
