Hi Audrey (and other ClayArt readers)!

One thing to remember when engraving with a Dremel tool or other grinding
tool, on fired ware or when cleaning kiln shelves--Wear Face And Eye
Protection! Always grind with an exhaust fan on, or use a breathing mask, or
both, to keep that toxic dust out of your lungs.

Hi Milton
Thank you for mentioning face and eye protection. I always wear my
breathing mask and depending on the job either eye goggles or a total face
mask. I do sanding, grinding etc. on the screen porch and still wear
protection. I think another important part of protection is the right
clothing for the job. I heard about one person getting burned while using a
propane torch to enhance the copper on a raku pot. The pot was probably
still damp because the heat popped a piece off the pot and burned her to the
point of having to go to the hospital. I wasn't there at the time but heard
it was a nasty burn. After that story I always wear protective clothing
depending on the job I'm doing. This is one reason why I love this list
people are always watching out for others and helping when they can.
Thanks again
Audrey
