Can you explain in more detail what you use and how you go about putting the
grooves into your large tiles? I have only been making my own tiles for the
last year and have not experienced too many problems as of yet but want to
start going to larger sizes. Also how thick are your slabs?

I use a loop trimming tool. I goove in more than one direction, & leave
spaces for support. What you want is horizontal grooves for wall
installations.
I'll try to show you with XX for grooved areas.

repeat
I even tilt the groove a bit to create an interlock of thin set & tile.
