I thought I'd pass on some information about a workshop here in Midland, MI
that is being organized by our local arts organization. If there are enough
registrants for the workshop to be held, the lecture can be attended by itself
for $6. The registration deadline is 3/27.

TITLE Ceramic Workshop & Lecture: Foil Firing with Gary Greenberg

DATE Lecture: May 21 7:00pm
Workshop: May 22 10am- 4pm

COST $125 + $15 materials = $140

DESCRIPTION Noted Ceramist and Professor of Art at Carlton Univerisity of
Pennsylvania, Gary Greenberg will present this workshop and slide
lecture. The workshop will entail a demonstration of the 'Foil
Firing'
technique, which he developed in the late 80's, and a 'Slides and
Lies'
lecture. The firing technique was originated with the culinary
practice
of cooking chicken and other items wrapped in caly, and makes
possible the construction and firing of work in as little as 3 to
5 hours.
Greenberg feels that this technique, which can be executed in a
Weber
grill, lends to ceramics and aura of immediacy, which it is
sorely lacking.
His slide lecture will highlight the development of his work and
his
involvement, as co-curator of "The International Invitational
Traveling
Ashtray Exhibition".
