magnets for wrist (a story)

A few decades ago my parents travelled to Japan. While there my Mother had
trouble with her carpal tunnel syndrome (she's a painter). Their Japanese
friends took them to a pharmacy where they purchased some very tiny magnets
with small bumps on them. I think there were about 3 or 4 raised bumps per
magnet. In the box of magnets was a map of the human body and where to
place the magnets.

A few years later my Mother's wrist was bothering her again. She had
extensive tests done and it was definately diagnosed as carpal tunnel. She
wore a wrist brace for a long time but didn't experience much relief so the
doctor scheduled surgery. In the meantime Mom ran across those strange
magnets again and decided to give them a try. I drove her to the hospital
the day of the surgery. She was taken to Xray and then back to her room
while the surgeon looked over her films. I was there when he came to her
and told her he couldn't find any evidence of the problem. She admitted
that since wearing the magnets she had had noticed relief but thought that
it was all in her head. They sent her home without the surgery!!! My
mother is in NO WAY an alternative medicine person but if you ask her about
the magnets she is a true believer.

I don't know where you can get them in the states but I understand that the
are an old stand by in Japanese pharmacies. On their next trip to Japan
they brought the entire family a box of these little wonders. I know my
Mother has been replaceing the bandaid adhesive on the backs of hers for
years and is still using them periodically. She still paints daily at age
75 with no wrist pain.
