------------------
I need a DEPENDABLE White glaze, semi-gloss, applied on stoneware and
fired to cone-9 in either Oxidation or Reduction. I=92ve searched the
Glaze databases, but there are so many recipes I could spend a lifetime
testing them all. The ones I have tried are not consistent and pieces
occasionally end up an ugly GRAY. Thanks in advance for your help.

A glaze that I have found quite dependable is from Emmanuel Cooper's book=22
The Potter's Book of Glaze recipes=22. For cones 8 and 9 and this one is =
best
in oxidation and over a white body.

Feldspar ( Potash) 40
Whiting 20
Ball Clay 5
China clay 5
Flint 20
Titanium dioxide 10

Good luck

This white is a workhorse in Oxidation, cone 8-10. However zinc is
rumored to disappear in reduction, making it questionable for
reduction....

Custer feldspar 21.68 21.70
Zinc oxide 6.69 6.70
Whiting 19.98 20.00
Kaolin 9.99 10.00
Flint 19.98 20.00
Superpax 16.68 16.70
Spodumene 5.00 5.00
-------- --------
Totals: 100.00 100.10

Comments: Really nice over cobalt slips, has been my basic white for
many years. Have used zircopax, superpax,
ultrox all successfully as opacifiers.
