nceca topical discussion

More than one of you has asked questions or wanted to discuss creating
or running a clay guild or cooperative so I proposed a a Topical
Discussion on the subject for the Columbus NCECA. It was accepted as:
"Creating, Building, and Managing your Noprofit or Cooperative. I
wanted to provide any of you interested in this subject an opportunity
to ask questions, share ideas and experiences and find solutions to
problems. It is a time for those with experience to help those who want
to develop thier own organizations. We have had some excellent advice
provided on Clayart and it is my hope we can expand in at NCECA.
Perhaps we can develop a network for the future. I have asked my wife,
Marcella, to join us as she has almost 50 years experience in
fundraising and grantwriting. Might be useful. The Topical Discussions
take place at 3:30 on Friday. Hope some of you can join us.

This is to assure those of you interested in the NCECA Topical
Discussion on "Creating, Building, and Managing your Noprofit or
Cooperative." I have received your messages and am glad to have more
ideas to put into the hopper. I will bring a list with me. Also, for
those who would like to attend but can't, I will get a list of
participants with contact info. to share with all interested folk. We
can develop an on-going discussion between NCECAs. I will also bring
some materials on planning and evaluation of organizations as well as
how to build and train a board for a new organization. Any ideas, send
them on to me.

Hi Clayarters!

We are hosting a topical discussion group at NCECA on Friday at 3:30.
It is called "Clay Without Boundaries" and discusses using other media
with clay or even instead of clay.

We would like feedback from Clayart: anyone out there who is using
mixed media with clay. We are interested in the aesthetics and
philosophy of joining unlike materials, and also in the technical
aspects. Please respond if you have tried this or are interested in
trying it.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Where can I find a list of the "Topical Discussions" that are going to be
held at the NCECA conventions? Is there anyone doing transcripts of these
meetings? I will not be going to the convention but would like to know
what was presented. Is someone taking input from people not going to be
present? On the subject of guilds and cooperatives, I am involved in two,
very different, kinds of co-ops and would like to share observations with
others. Short postings on this broad subject, via the clayart list, feel
a little limiting to me unless a specific issue is stated. Several books
could be written about this subject and not cover everything. Wishing I
could be there.

Hi Andrew,
NCECA does produce a journal which contains some of the proceedings during
the conference. On the whole however the Journal can only be a glimmer.
There is far too much that happens to appear in one publication. Short
synopsi (what is the plural of synopsis?) have occasionally been published of
most of the Topical discussions, but they were usually too short to be of
much use. The list of discussions appears in the prgram guide distributed in
at the conference and may appear this year in Ceramics Monthly Magazine, I am
not sure. Probably the best way to find out what took place is too have
someone take notes. Articles about what took place could be submitted to the
NCECA Journal or other publications. You could send a short letter along with
someone to read at the theTopical discussion.

Wish you could make it.
Louis

As a reminder to all of you who won't be able to attend NCECA, Critical
Ceramics will be there reporting on each day's events.

I'm still looking for folks to write short pieces as there are way too many
bases to cover.

The stories/articles/reviews will be available at http://www.criticalceramics.or

Thanks,
