About the Academy....
The Academy was founded in the Spring of 1997 by ceramic artist Frank Bosco
and his wife, Ann. The school is dedicated to the education and creative
growth of individuals who enjoy working with clay. The NY/NJ ACA resides in=
a
2,500 sq. ft. turn of the century carriage warehouse, located in urban =
Jersey
City near historic Liberty State Park. The school itself is considered a
wonderful place to work due to its many windows bringing in sunlight, a
remarkable level of cleanliness that is not found in any other ceramic
facility, and the well-thought out organization of tools, glaze materials,
research materials, and work and storage space that Frank has devised. =
Other
features include 6 new electric Brent wheels, a slab roller, extruder, damp
box, hot box, cancass-covered work tables, a mold-making and slip-casting
facility, complete raw materials lab, a wide selection of glazes for =
high-fire
oxidation or reduction in our gas kiln, as well as low-fire oxidation in our
electric kilns. Planned for summer =9199 is installation of a raku kiln.
Classes are generally offered in the evening but the school is also =
available
to people who wish to rent by the month (starts at =24150.00 per), so that =
at
any given time you may see people working on projects or developing their
skills.

Classes offered in the past include:
Ceramic Material Science
Intermediate Throwing
Porcelain Ceramics
The Dynamics of Handbuilding
Surface Design/Expression
Mold Making and Slip Casting
Beginning Throwing
About the founder...
The Academy has been Frank Bosco=92s dream come true. After working for =
over
20 years at other campuses, Frank heard over and over his student=92s gripes
about what was wrong with each pottery facility. Frank realized he had the
potential to get it right - right in his own building. He designed each
aspect of the facility based on twenty years experience of what works. =
Frank
brings to the Academy his fine academic backround (MFA in Ceramics at Alfred
University and BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design) and his
professional experience of teaching at Parsons School of Design, Rhode =
Island
School of Design, Rutgers University, and Drew University. Frank, in =
addition
to teaching, is an exhibiting artist who shows his artwork nationwide, and =
is
currently represented by the Phoenix Gallery in New York City.
