raku kilns to what temp?

updated mon 15 feb 99

Can't locate Ward catalog or E mail address, but this question of
general interest in any case.
Happened to ask a potter pal how high she could fire her new raku kiln
and could she use it for regular reduction firing? (She has larger of
the Ward raku kilns.) She didn't know but would like to know, I said
I'd use Clayart. (I have old Wrap portable gas kiln which I use for
raku and for cone 10 reduction as well, just wondered if raku kilns were
durable for that kind of stress) Marc or any other knowledgeable
person? TIA, Carolyn

Carolyn,
I'm sure Marc will repond too, but..
Most fiber Raku kilns are not insulated enough to get over the low fire
mark, and certainly would cool too fast for conventional glaze firing.

For a better explanation, try Marc at wardburner@aol.com
