as with all stoneware glazes the final cone that is fired is up to the potter.
experience with the glaze is the final outcome.
cone 9 is sometimes better for reds........depends.
cone 10 seemed what i should do with it.
others will sneak this to almost 11........and then of course......what is
cone 10? flat over, slightly bent.
the book tells one thing.....potters vary that.
and i remember one time going to ken ferguson's kiln site.
he said.....` hell, i fire just cone 10`.........i found about 10 cone pats
behind the kiln
thrown away.......they were all melted.....flat over cone 11. yah, he
fired cone 10...right.

but that was his opinion, and he owned it.

ok, ok.
no haiku.
pete's cranberry red.....from claytimes. (the magazine) for the cat lady.

custer spar 73.8%
gertsley borate 10.2
whiting 11.1
flint 4.9
add:
copper carb .35%
tin ox 1.0
cone 9,10,11
over reduction causes blue spotting. (nice, i get that sometimes.)

if you fired 6 bowls on my third shelf
last week, you would get the most
wonderful copper green/almost celedon
looking pots.

pete's red, perfect,
most times,
and then, again,
copper green is my
favorite celedon

ron roy sent me one amercian dollar, worth about 65 cents,
to tell the list that i `admire` him the most. well, in some ways,
glaze etc......i do, but as a hunter of large birds, tsk, tsk, tsk.
again, the turkey is safe as long as ron is in the woods.
mel/mn thanks again, pete pinnell.
