Between use we clean out the vacuum chamber so that the slot does not
become clogged. This takes only a minute to do. This breaks the seal
naturally, so be very careful not to get grit etc on the surfaces that
touch. Then once again seat the perspex cover. We find that by being
careful we only need to renew the Vaseline every few months.

We don't use silicone as it doesn't reseal very well when the chamber is
cleaned and it is necessary to clean that small square vacuum regularly
or otherwise the pug does not work efficiently.

Electrical tape is used for a gasket when the barrel is split
approximately once a year to clean out all the foreign bits that somehow
manage to creep through with the clay. Once again Vaseline is used to
effect the seal. Basically wherever the gasket touches should have a
continuous smear so that air cannot be sucked.

hope that this helps you as I find my Venco an essential piece of
equipment as it has revolutionized my recycling and reuse of clay scrap
and trimmings not to mention that I no longer wedge.
