Aloha Nikki,
Put on the thinking cap for you and thought I'd throw out this idea.
In your position I'm sure that regular clay would be a mess. How about
spending your time creating tiles or other items from plasticine (
modeling clay ). You wouldn't be bathed in clay dust and need to worry
about wedging.
If you need to or want to nap, there's no need to worry about projects
drying on your lap / bed or work space.
Create a tile mural reflecting what you're feeling and experiencing. A
story board as it were. You can make molds of the pieces for slip casting
or press molding. Put them aside without worry about drying or cracking
until you're ready to work more with them ....or have someone make the
molds for you as you go along.
By the time you're on your feet and ready to work, you'll have a whole set
of molds to start casting / pressing and ideas of what to do with them.
..............provided new mothers have spare time ??!!!
