I have had a lot of requests from Clayarters for the plans to my Homemade
Kickwheel that I published several years ago in Pottery In Australia. I
have attached the plans to my web site so that they can be downloaded or
printed out. This will save me international postage costs.

The Site is:

I have also attached several other articles of interest including:

Raw Glazing: A traditional approach.

Leo's Clear Glaze

A New Gas Kiln

You are welcome to use them in any way you like as long as you give
credit where it is due.

I also welcome any feedback.

Best Wishes
Leo

Fred, I'm not sure a ten-year-old has enough strength to kick a wheel long
and hard enough. However, I can provide you with plans, from the Edmonton
Ceramic Guild, from which many kick wheels have been built. Mine is more
than 30 years old, yet works as well as when new, thanks primarily to
sealed ball bearings (no clay grit inside, no oiling to do) and a
rock-solid frame--so your kick-energy goes into turning the wheel, not
shaking the frame.

Modifications probably would have to be made to accomodate a youngster's
shorter legs, namely, thread the shaft high enough that the kick plate can
be raised high enough for her to kick it well while still seated. You might
also need to adjust the vertical and horizontal position of the seat to
accomodate her, so that she is close enough to reach past the center of the
wheel while still well-seated and at the right height so that she can
readily work with her forearms fairly horizontal when her elbows are braced
against her sides.

To cover the costs of duplicating the blueprints and postage, send $5 and a
self-addressed 9 x 12" envelope to me at the address below.

My goodness I feel like I am holding some sacred key
or something... I had no idea that sooooooo many
people would want and need these kick wheel plans.. I
have devised an easy for me way to get this out to
everybody... The Putz that is supposed to have
finished working on my computer is a Royal Putz and it
hasn't been completed yet... Any way I intend to scan
them on Friday weather or not he has finished.. And, I
will post them on my web page for the taking.. There
will be directions and all... When I have a successful
scan and I feel that the page is working right
(probably Friday) I will post another letter here to
let "you" know it is there..

Thanks to all that have been so generous to offer
paying postage or copying or scanning fees, but this
won't be necessary unless for some strange reason once
the page is done, and they have tried all the
information that will be on it, AND they live
someplace that involves toll's or some extra fees
unknown to me (aside from a simple stamp). Then we
will decide from there.

So, I am confidant this will work.. Sit tight the
check is in the mail.. HEhehehehehe :)

Anji
