yes ani, you can raku in an electric kiln!

Hello Ani,

Have you seen Jolyon Hofsted suggestion on page 80 of November 1998 Ceramics
Monthly ? He is teaching at Queens College and uses electric kilns for Raku
and it works! Just be sure to unplug the kiln before reaching in with the
tongs to remove the hot pot and wear good gloves and face shield to protect
yourself from the blast of hot air. Be careful of long hair too.I am an
octogenerian retired chemist and have been doing Raku in a top loading kiln
for 15 years with no problems. Have replaced elements twice in that
time.Jolyon has his kiln on wheels so that he can move it outside for the
final step to avoid smoking up the pottery.Good luck!
