Aloha All,
- Regarding Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center, on Maui.....some of you have
visited or have heard of it.
The Hui is slowly progressing in it's long term expansion goals. As I speak
(write) our children's classroom and restrooms are taking shape. The first
major construction on the grounds since the main building was built in
1917.
Originally a plantation estate, we're lucky enough to have a generous
relationship with the property owner, Maui Land & Pine. .....as in
pineapple.
The ceramic work areas are in the former stables and the classroom was part
of the tack room. A large part of the activity goes on outside.

Part of the next phase, hopefully in 2-3 ( ???? ) years will be to expand
and update the ceramics area. We're starting a small brainstorming group to
address the needs of the studio and classroom. Early...yes, but we want to
be ready so OUR needs have been thought out and thought through. We don't
want studio or classroom designed by an architect / engineer that's never
seen a wheel or touched clay.

---I would welcome any suggestions and / or comments for our file, so we
can collect ideas for things to avoid or include. A very tentative size for
the classroom building is 30 x 50.
---------------------

We're a non-profit and constantly looking for help. ( As most are !! )
If anyone is interested in memberships or even donations / grants, I'll be
more than happy to forward your name to the right person.
Members are also mailed our newsletter, updates and a class schedule.
Paul Soldner, Warren McKenzie, Peter VandenBerge among others have taught
here in the past. Numerous visitors plan their vacations around a class.
Classes also include jewelry, photography, printmaking, woodworking to name
a few.
For some photos and information check our site. www.maui.net/~hui/

Sorry if this sounds like a shameless plug.

The studio / classroom info would be appreciated though. Answer privately
or post...maybe others can benefit too.

TIA -- From Alohaland, Ditmar.

Hi Ditmar, Just want to tell you that I enjoyed greatly participating in a
workshop given by Regis Brody with Toshiko in attendance. It was a wonderful
experience and I still have a warm feeling when I think about it. I will be in
Honolulu between Jan 1 and March 8 and would love to attend another ceramics
workshop if you will have one during that time. Please let mi know. Best
wishes to you and the Hui, Aloha, Biljana in Lexington KY
