solar kiln

I vaguely remember reading an article about a small experimental solar
kiln. I think it was in CM, quite a few years back. I did try to
locate the article with their website article search engine, but the
reference it sited was not in that issue. According to them, it's
called "An Experimental Solar Oven" by Kujundzic. It was just a
starting point, not a ready-to-fly plan. Perhaps another Clayarter will
remember it, and site the correct magazine.

Hi C.A. Sanger:

Six articles on solar energy have appeared in Studio Potter Magazine:

1. Studio potter Volume 3, Number 1 December, 1974

Jay Shelton: "Solar Fired Kilns?" by Jay Shelton

2. Studio Potter Volume 4, Number 2, June, 1976:

"Low Technology Solar Energy" by David Boyd
"Solar Energy" by Erich A. Farber
"Experimental Solar Kilns" by Zeljko Kujundzic
"Firing with Sunlight" by Tom Fresh, Chip Gardner, and Bob Conners

3. Studio Potter Volume 10, Number 1, December, 1981

"Firing with Solar Energy" by Harriet E. Brisson

I have read some history on solar kilns and was wondering if anyone has
ever used one or uses one and could give me any information . What kind of
results do you get and how did you construct it ? Thanks Rhonda S.C.

At the bottom of each post to this list you will see:

Go to that page and click on "Search Archives" then enter solar kiln as your
search string. You'll get quite a few hits. Be patient, it's not the fastest
search engine.

As helpful starters, we have this comment from Bill Amsterlaw:

Also, I wrote two posts regarding this issue:
http://www.potters.org/subject21271.htm
http://www.escribe.com/art/clay/m22502.html

That should get you started. BTW, you say "I have read some history on solar
kilns...". What have you been reading? If you have found articles other than
the ones noted above, would you please share them with us? I know that I
don't paint a very rosy picture for this technology in my posts, but I am
still interested in the subject. Any new information is most welcome.
