sawdust: high temp alloy foil available

I hope this doesn't sound like a commercial. Quite a few people have
respnded to my message about the possible availability of high temperature
(2200 Deg F) alloy foil for use with sawdust in their electric kiln. I was
able to locate a source of supply for the heat treating foil. I have to buy
it in bulk and then process it for less expensive use.

I can resell it for $30 for a 2 foot by 5 foot piece or $200 for a 50 foot
by 2 foot piece. I have a little that is rated for 2000 Deg and when I buy
a bulk quantitiy I will get the 2200 Deg F foil. Email me or call our
office to order.

I can't say what effect escaping gases would have on your kiln. I would
take very little material to create a carbon atmosphere - it doesn't take
much sawdust or whatever (coal, graphite, etc.) to do this. I do know that
heat treaters get very god results in terms of protecting their parts from
oxidation and decarburization which would rely on the ability to create a
fairly tight container. I would caution anyone who does this to make sure
their elements are well oxidized (which gives them a protective coating).
The other caution about this high temperature alloy foil is that it is
extremely sharp and, being much stiffer than aluminum foil, can cut you.
You must wear gloves when handling it.

In connection with this---does anyone know what temperature a charcoal fire gets
up to? I have a chance to buy a very large smoker for a very cheap price. It's
a conventional barbeque smoker----about 4 ft long and about 2 ft in diameter.
It looks perfect for doing sawdust pieces in my backyard and I'd like to use the
foil technique anyway because it seems easier to control. But if it doesn't get
up high enough, it wouldn't be worth buying.

How is the foil saggar "sealed" if it's kind of stiff? Are the results
different from using a closed clay saggar inside the electric kiln?

Thanks in advance,
