Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA)
presents a workshop by
RICHARD HIRSCH, "Raku: A Personal Approach".

This will be held at Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, Pedder Bay,
VICTORIA, B.C. September 26-27, 1998, from 10am to 4pm both days.

Known internationally for his innovative and thought-provoking work in
Raku as well as for his many exhibitions, publications, workshops and
lectures, he is currently professor of ceramics at the School for American
Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology.

This workshop will give a rare opportunity to see one of the world's
top professional raku artists in action. It will include demonstrations of
working methods, multi-layered surfacing and firing processes and both his
personal philosophy and artistic conceptualization in taking the medium into
new directions beyond current methods.

His book, "RAKU", written in cooperation with Christopher Tyler, has
been one of the most influential references in this aspect of ceramic art.

Cost is $100.(Can.) and includes lunches and refreshments at coffee breaks
