reduction time & flues in fiber kiln

Hi All:

I'm wondering what is the average, and the longest, time folks put their
expandable metal raku fiber kilns into reduction by closing down the top =
flue?
I've heard times from 20 seconds up to 15 minutes. Will repeated 15 minute
cycles of this (at the end of every firing cycle) over time deteriorate the
fiber blanket in any way?

Another somewhat related question about the position of the flue...if the =
single
venturi burner port is placed off center in the bottom brick box, will it =
make
any difference if the top exit flue is off center, too? Does having the =
flue
not centered in the top of the lid effect the draft/vortex inside in any =
way?
Or should the burner in take port and top exit flue ALWAYS be dead center in
their placement? (Hope this makes sense=21)

Thanks in advance to all who take a moment to ponder and respond=21

A few questions to answer....Been off list for a couple of weeks, so if I'm
repeating someone else, apologies.

It won't hurt the fiber, but your anchoring system, if metal, will be affected
and shorten it's life.

this doesn't really matter. Most raku kilns have such high input relative to
size and lots of resulting turbulence that the ware tends to be even.
