I have written Santa for a pair of those Raku gloves which allow you to
take pieces directly from hot kiln with hands. Santa would like to
oblige but has not found them in any catalogs he has on hand. Perhaps
Clayarters can help him out. Is there any supplier which specializes in
Raku stuff? Thanks. cnc

Marc Ward (Ward Burners) has a range of gloves, including some mitts that
are rated at 2000F for 20 seconds (20 seconds is a _very_ long time with a
2000 degree object in your paws). He also has fire resistant jackets and
Nomex hoods.

We got some gauntlets, the jacket and the hood (I have a beard and Lynne has
long hair). I thought that the hood would be confining, but it is
surprisingly comfortable.

Hi CNC

You have just touched on the direction of my Christmas Wishes. There are a
couple of different places to look. A shop that sells safety equipment for
industrial use has supplied a couple of my friends with mitts and even
fireman's coats for lifting really large pieces. Also shops that specialize
in glass blowing supplies will have an assortment. I have used each type
and prefer the ones sold at the safety supply house. +/- $45.00 in Denver.
Also do yourself a favor and get the highest degree of protection. for the
few dollars more, ($10 -$20) it's definitely worth the extra outlay. Also
the gloves come in different lengths as well as full arm extentions.

Just my .02 cents worth from someone ready to buy her first set!

Dear cnc,

We carry UL Listed gloves to 2000 degrees plus all sorts of safety clothing.
Though you may not need it, we even carry full suits with cooling pipes, self
contained breathing appartus, and gold visors...just in case you need to stand
unharmed in a lake of burning jet fuel :-). Feel free to call, write, or email
us for a catalog.....
