I'll be going on a short trip to Paris, France Sept. 27th to Oct. 6th.
Does anyone out there have any "clay suggestions"?
Thanks,
Michal in Israel

A couple of potters are travelling to Paris in March and would appreciate any
information relating to pottery exhibits, potters, studios, workshops,
galleries etc...
Thanks in advance.

If they can get a copy of the French Magazine "Ceramique et Verre", it
lists all sorts of pottery and glass events, and so on. From what I
gathered when I enquired about 2 years ago, there are not very many studios
or potters living in Paris anymore, as it is too expensive. But there were
a few studios listed in this magazine.

Hope they have a great time there. It is the most beautiful and fabulous
city in the world. Of course, I am prejudiced--I grew up there!

All the best.

Dear Folks=3B The Guimet Mus=E9e in the 16th arrondisement, M=E9tro I=E9na, =
has a
marvelous collection of Asian ceramics. Only a small fraction of their
collection is on view, but that is a job for two mornings and an afternoon.
I covet several Shino and Oribe pieces, as well as some chinese goblets
which featured 'straws' running from the lip down the side and under the
bottom=3B where there was a beautiful little hen looking up at one. My guess
is that they were intended for drinking some fermented beverage, and the
straw let you drink from the bottom until seeing the hen's face let you
know that the dregs(dead yeasts) were shortly to follow=21 Not to be missed
is an Oribe squared-off cup, very shallow, witha tiny spout on one side and
a person with a conical straw hat on the other side. As one drinks from the
spout, the dregs slide away from the thirsty person on the edge. Lovely
metaphor=21 Also gorgeous Chun pieces, and porcelain 'Pillows' with drawings
of Lotus flowers and the dreaming/reclining poet/sage. I have many drawings
in my journals from the three visits I have made to the Guimet. Bon =
Apetit=21
Hank in Eugene, remembering fondly.

ps: If you can find them, examples of Chantilly(small town N of Paris)
porcelain seem fine to me.
